These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, services, and content (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using Friendly Chatter, you agree to these Terms of Service.
Who We Are
Friendly Chatter is a support-focused platform that provides a safe space for individuals to engage in friendly, empathetic conversation. Our calls provide a friendly listening service. We do not provide therapy, crisis intervention, or medical advice. Our listeners are not licensed mental health professionals.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use our services. By using the Service, you confirm that:
• You are legally able to enter into these Terms,
• All information you provide is accurate and current,
• You will use the Service in compliance with all applicable laws.
Use of the Service
When using Friendly Chatter, you agree to:
• Treat others with respect and kindness,
• Refrain from using abusive, discriminatory, or threatening language,
• Not impersonate others or provide false information,
• Not use the platform for illegal or harmful purposes,
• Not promote commercial products or services.
Not a Crisis or Medical Service
Friendly Chatter is not intended to provide crisis intervention, medical advice, or therapeutic treatment. If you are in crisis or in need of professional help, please contact a licensed therapist or emergency services in your area.
User Content
You are responsible for what you share with Friendly Chatter. By using our services, you agree not to share anything harmful, offensive, or unlawful. Any content you submit — such as messages, feedback, or conversations — remains yours, but you give us permission to use it only as needed to operate and improve our services. This may include activities like ensuring user safety, maintaining quality, or supporting the user experience. We will never sell your data. We may occasionally use anonymized stories or excerpts from conversations to raise awareness, improve our platform, or support community education. These will never include names or personally identifiable details, and will always be used with care and respect.
Privacy
We respect your privacy. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. If required by law, we may disclose information to authorities.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or misused the platform.
No Liability
Friendly Chatter, its team, volunteers, partners, or affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, emotional distress, losses resulting from or in connection with your use of our services or any harm resulting from reliance on information shared during conversations.
Friendly Chatter is a peer-based, non-clinical platform designed for general support and connection. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, or crisis intervention. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any support or information shared. We are not responsible for any decisions you make based on our conversations. You assume full responsibility for any actions or decisions you make as a result of engaging with Friendly Chatter. By using our platform, you agree that you do so at your own discretion and risk.
Payments & Refunds
By accessing services through Friendly Chatter, you agree to pay all applicable fees as outlined at the time of purchase or booking. All fees must be paid in full at the time of booking and are processed securely through our third-party payment provider. Prices are listed in CAD and may include applicable taxes. Fees may vary depending on the type of service or session selected. By booking a service, you agree to the fee and understand that your spot is reserved exclusively for you. Payment confirms your commitment to the scheduled time.
We understand that plans can change. To support fairness and scheduling flexibility, you are eligible for a full refund if you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. To cancel and request a refund, email us at hello@friendlychatter.ca, include your full name, appointment time, and the email used to book. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled session, missed appointments or no-shows, partial use of a session or service. If you need to reschedule, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
